During the war it was difficult for the Canadian population to grow because of the large number of men that were off at war. However, after soldiers came home from war it seemed to be the perfect time to settle down and have a family. This resulted in a population surge during the 1940's. The new baby boomers helped the economy boom because with the new growing economy, there was a growing demand for every day household items. Mary Vincent writes that "...[baby boomers] buy 3.5 million cars and more than a million new homes." (Visible Minorities, Canadians at work, home, and play in 1900, 1950 and 2000) All of the production that was needed created many new jobs for Canadians, and all of the purchasing done by the boomers created a great profit. This helped the post-war Canadian economy greatly.
