When soldiers left their jobs to fight in the war, women had to take the responsibility for the jobs left vacant. This opened up a whole new world and concept of women in the workplace, doing untraditional jobs. However, when the war ended, returning soldiers wanted their old jobs back for their own. In Creating Canada A History - 1914 to Present on page 266 it states that, "Servicewomen, on the other hand, were encouraged to withdraw from the workforce or to enter traditionally female careers..." Despite the fact that many women were forced or urged to leave the jobs they took on during the war, this was still beneficial for Canada's economy to have a new found dynamic of women in the workforce.
